The Society for the Advancement of Continuing Education for Ministry (SACEM) is a network of persons seeking to share resources, enhance skills, and promote excellence in lifelong learning for ministry.

Founded in 1967, the SACEM is made up of members from around the world representing various denominational and religious affiliations, agencies, institutions, organizations, and forms of ministry.

As a network of collaborating practitioners in the field of lifelong learning for ministry, SACEM seeks to:

• Provide opportunities for sharing information, growing skills, and encouraging high standards of excellence in the development of continuing education for ministry.

• Identify issues that affect the advancement of lifelong learning for ministry and to develop strategies, programs, and methods for its advancement.

• Advocate for continuing education through dissemination of literature and other resources, public presentations, representation in appropriate forums, and cooperation with other bodies and agencies concerned about lifelong learning for ministry.

• Support research and publication that will aid in the advancement of lifelong learning for ministry.

Membership in the Society for the Advancement of Continuing Education for Ministry provides:

• resources, program opportunities and services for growth in ministry;

• a framework for sharing insights and experiences through a broad range of contacts with other professionals;

• identification of issues facing the profession, with strategies, programs, and methods to address them;

• research opportunities and support for research projects;

• a channel for advocacy; and

• an organization that is searching for and implementing new ways to serve the field of lifelong learning for ministry.

Persons may join SACEM as individual members or institutional members. Annual dues for individual membership are $60 ( US) for individuals or $30 ( US) for graduate students and retired persons. For institutional memberships, which may include up to 5 persons from the institution, are $100. The membership year is January 1 through December 31.

SACEM members include theological educators, program directors, consultants, program designers and brokers, and advocates of continuing education for ministry, as well as organizations providing consultant services, career counseling, professional development experiences, didactic and experiential learning opportunities, and printed and multi-media resources. This rich diversity of membership is a valuable resource for SACEM and its members.
